Successful Reentry Program for the youth
It is widely believed that the American justice system (whether for adults or for juveniles) is counterproductive, ineffective, and likely to yield adverse outcomes that neutralize or subvert its desired benefits. Yet, it is possible to improve upon the current system by creating a productive policy, program, diversion, modification, or alternative that can help at-risk individuals to avoid enmeshment or retention in the justice system and/or the pathways that lead to it. Productive policies, programs, diversions, modifications and alternatives can take place in many different forms and many different settings. They can occur within police departments, courts, correctional institutions, after care programs, and post-release settings. They can be situated within families, peer groups, schools, neighborhoods, social service agencies, state legislatures and countless other venues. They can be in the form of innovative social policies or more productive social work programs. They can aim to prevent a person’s movement toward or into the justice system. Or, once in the system, they can seek to avert a person’s retention in it. And, they can promote a more productive exit from the system and more beneficial reentry and reintegration into open society.
