Taste

For this miniblock we are going to be considering the notion of ‘taste’, and for the assessment you are going to choose an artefact in a museum or gallery in London as a case study in order to explore the issues discussed in the miniblock. You may choose any kind of designed artefact (product, fashion, textiles, furniture, jewellery, graphics, ceramics, even architecture). You do not have to choose an artefact from your discipline. Please do not choose a painting, sculpture or photograph – we want you to focus on design and ‘taste’.
We will consider what a ‘case study’ is very briefly in week 1, but focus on it more closely in week 3. However, this should not stop you from visiting some museums and galleries, choosing an object and beginning your research over the holidays.

Please note the following for the assignment:
•your review should be 900-1200 words in length
• accompanied by four to five illustrations
• it must have a bibliography (which is not included in the word length). Please ensure that your bibliography is properly cited.
•you should use a minimum of four academic sources. Some of these can be from your textbook, and others you may wish to find yourself.
