Team Collaboration to Create a Technology Goal
Discussion 2: Team Collaboration to Create a Technology Goal
Now that you have considered the importance of culture and leadership in" rel="nofollow">in strategic plannin" rel="nofollow">ing, you are ready to draft a simple strategic plannin" rel="nofollow">ing goal: an early step in" rel="nofollow">in
the process. Sin" rel="nofollow">ince a strategic plan typically addresses an in" rel="nofollow">institutions next three to five years, its strategic goals are quite broad and far-reachin" rel="nofollow">ing. Later in" rel="nofollow">in the
process, you would create an implementation plan for each strategic plannin" rel="nofollow">ing goal. As you plan the implementation, you would identify the smaller tasks that need to be
accomplished each year to fulfill the broad, long-range goal.
Note: Different sources defin" rel="nofollow">ine the term goal differently. Hin" rel="nofollow">inton (2012) defin" rel="nofollow">ines an objective as bein" rel="nofollow">ing broader than a goal. She defin" rel="nofollow">ines an objective as a general desire
or theme, and defin" rel="nofollow">ines a goal as a smaller target that you can check off when completed. For the purposes of this course, a strategic plannin" rel="nofollow">ing goal is a broad, long-
range outcome that an in" rel="nofollow">institution wants to accomplish in" rel="nofollow">in a period of 3 to 5 years, not a smaller, simple task that can be accomplished quickly.
High-level goals are created in" rel="nofollow">in a variety of categories as part of a strategic plan. In this Discussion, you will work in" rel="nofollow">in an assigned small group. As you participate
in" rel="nofollow">in the group, imagin" rel="nofollow">ine you are part of a team that will write the technology goal for the Grand City Universitys strategic plan.
To prepare for this Discussion, read the Grand City University Profile in" rel="nofollow">in the Learnin" rel="nofollow">ing Resources. Explore scholarly resources, such as those found in" rel="nofollow">in the Walden
Library, to learn about current issues and challenges related to technology in" rel="nofollow">in higher education. Based on what you learn from these sources, draft a technology goal
for Grand City University. This should be a high-level goal to be accomplished over the next 3 to 5 years.
