Technical Communication and Organizational Leadership
Task
Because of your reputation as an excellent writer and communicator, your supervisor has put you in charge of an initiative to develop marketing materials for a new product launch (“Our Newest Thing!”). Specifically, you must create a glossy brochure that will be available at your product’s booth at its first trade show. You will be leading a multi-department team that will include marketers, technical communicators, graphic designers, and some of the designers and engineers who developed the product. Your team has a number of strong personalities, varying levels of computer and technical savvy, and varying levels of commitment to the particular project. You have one month to put together the project.
With your supervisor and your team as the audience, write a project plan in which you:
Rely on Tuckman’s stages of group development to lay out an initial plan, which should include a project calendar, delegation of responsibilities, and initial plans for managing conflict.
Select appropriate collaborative software, based on criteria you choose.
Provide an agenda for the initial group meeting.
