The Application of Robotics Process Automation to Minimize Errors and Improve Business Productivity: A Critical Study of the Healthcare Sector in Abu Dhabi, UAE). Essay Guidelines: There is no one right way to write a research proposal, but here are some guidelines: 1. Early on in your essay, you need to state your central research question clearly and succinctly. Avoid overly complex formulations. You should avoid drifting into discussing other research questions or keep on reformulating your research question as you go along so that it becomes unclear which the central one is. 2. You should explain briefly why you think it is important to ask that question. Why is your question so puzzling as to justify/require a few months/years of research? What precisely is so puzzling about that question? What drives your curiosity? What is the larger question hidden behind your research question? What might be the implications of your research findings? How does it matter that you get a right answer to the question you ask? It is not impermissible in this context to make autobiographical remarks about how you have come to be interested in this particular question, but you must discuss why that question is so puzzling, interesting, significant, important, etc in relation to your discipline/research subfield (which will necessarily involve you in some preliminary literature survey). 3. In any such exercise, you should demonstrate your ability to think/reflect/analyse, which in this context means inter alia: a. You should analyse, or break down, the central research question into a set of sub-questions. b. These sub-questions should approximate, as much as possible at this stage, to being individually necessary and conjointly sufficient to enable you to address the central research question. c. They are ordered in some meaningful way. d. You should engage in epistemological considerations and discuss what kind of question(s) you are investigating and what kind of knowledge claims you e. are attempting to make through your research. 4. On the basis of 3a, b, and c, you should indicate the overall structure of your dissertation and give a tentative outline of the chapters in terms of their objectives. 5. 3d above should be given some weight in your reflection. Here are some conventional labels that may characterize your research (these are not necessarily mutually exclusive nor unproblematic): a. historical (e.g., how something came to be/happen; how it was in a given period; how things have changed over time); b. empirical (idiographic or nomothetic); c. meta-ethical, moral, legal, policy-oriented; d. philosophical (e.g., analysing the presuppositions and logical structure of, and the key concepts employed in, a particular line of thinking or argument in your subfield); e. defamiliarizing/critical (how what we generally take for granted in our contemporary social life is historically contingent/has been historically and socially produced and how, therefore, it could be otherwise; what impact a dominant discourse is having and how that, in turn, is being challenged; how our dominant way of thinking, when thought through and subjected to close scrutiny, may lead to a different way of thinking); etc. In this context, you will need to demonstrate your understandings of key methodological issues in the empirical-theoretical social sciences such as: generalisability; relationship between empirical research and theory; sampling, sampling error, or choice of cases; and biases in interpretation. These issues are especially important in positivistic social science research practices, but are encountered more broadly in designing empirical research. 6. In relation to 5 above, you should consider what kinds of investigation you will be required to conduct in terms of data collection and data analysis. 7. You should explain, as far as possible, how your research project relates to the existing body of literature. At this point, this need not involve an extensive critical literature survey, but you should demonstrate that you have some idea of what is being done in your field, perhaps by giving a brief outline of a few key works relating to your research question and/or listing in your bibliography (not counted in the word length) some key items you have already read as well as those you think you need to be reading. 8. You should demonstrate that you have reflected on any ethical and legal issues that may impinge on your research process and outcome.
