My views on the immigration debate

I believe that the United States should have a fair and humane immigration system that balances the need to secure the borders with the need to welcome immigrants who contribute to the country. I support comprehensive immigration reform that would create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who meet certain requirements, such as paying taxes and passing a criminal background check. I also support increasing border security, but I believe that this can be done without resorting to inhumane practices such as family separation.

I believe that the debate over immigration is often framed in a way that pits security against compassion. However, I believe that it is possible to have a strong national security while also being welcoming to immigrants. We need to find a way to balance these two important goals.
