Discuss the daily life of the average US combat soldier in Vietnam. Be sure to include the types of combat, environmental, and psychological challenges soldiers faced in Vietnam. For this question, if you are a Vietnam veteran or know a Vietnam veteran, you are welcome to use that knowledge in combination with my lectures, the Olson and Roberts textbook, the supplemental readers, and the assigned documentaries.
Part 2. (80 points) Discuss the biography, personally and politically, of LBJ. How did his childhood impact his political career? How did his political career begin? What, in general, did he accomplish in the Senate? How did he become President of the United States? What two features of 1963/1964 made him "presidential" enough to win the 1964 Presidential election? Why did he escalate in Vietnam? What impact did the protest against the war in Vietnam and on social justice issues on the home front have on LBJ? Discuss the Tet Offensive in 1968 and why LBJ chose not to run for re-election? What was the final outcome of US efforts in Vietnam? As you go forward, what conclusions, if any, have you made about LBJ as a President?
