The danger of the single story

Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her TED Talk presentation says the danger of what she called “the single story” is that it “creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.” Write an essay about a time when you were stereotyped – when only one story was being projected about you. How did it feel to be stereotyped and what effect did it have on you? Why is stereotyping considered negative in your opinion? Can stereotypes sometimes be considered positive? What lessons did you learn from that experience and how could you teach that lesson to others?
