The Decision For War

The Decision For War Order Description a Japanese military planner participating in the November 20, 1941 Imperial Conference, seated before the Emperor. The subject at hand is whether or not the Emperor will grant his sanction to the Navy’s daring plan to attack the United States’ naval installations at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Such an attack means abandoning any remaining hopes of peace with the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, and instead, certain war. Based on your knowledge of the relative current industrial and military conditions of all countries involved, along with your sense of the morale of the Japanese populace, what do you advise the emperor to do? Be sure to weigh all options carefully, considering what each means for the continued glory of the empire. Is peace possible? Is this attack the best option? Should we attack somewhere else? Will the people support a war against the US? What does this mean for our current positions in China and Southeast Asia?
