The Effects of Medication on Young Children with ADHD

Research Proposal PHASE I (50 points): Statement of the Problem, Literature Review and Hypothesis and Theory Papers should be written in formal tense (no first person). Significance of the Problem (12 points): State the significance of the problem you will address. Follow the outline provided and use the four topic paragraphs. The four topic paragraphs include: Magnitude of the Problem—The first paragraph should let the reader know the extent of the problem your research is proposing to address. How many people are affected by this problem? What are the consequences of this problem. How does this problem affect the individual and/or their family. For this paragraph, you’ll want to include statistics on your problem, and reference your statements. Relationship of Problem to field of Social Work—This paragraph should explain why social work is relevant to finding solutions to this problem. Fit with Previous Literature. You might want to save this paragraph until after you have written your 5 to 6 page literature review. Based on your reading of the literature, what is known about your problem? Are studies still trying to identify predictors of this problem? Or, are the predictors (risk factors, causes) of the problem pretty well established? If the latter, if interventions to prevent or intervene with this problem occurring, what type of intervention(s) seem most promising? The purpose of this study—In one or two clear sentences, what is the purpose of your study? What exactly are you intending to do in this proposal? Literature Review (24 points): This is your literature review. You should use a minimum of 10 sources, mostly empirical journal articles, of which at least 80% have been published within the past 5 years, if possible. Conduct a selective and critical review of the literature that is applicable to your research question (5 to 6 pages). This is not a simple summary of literature. Your literature review should show that you know what research has already been done in your area of interest. How will you build upon this knowledge base? Indicate the current themes in this area and where your question fits in to this work. Tell what is missing (where are the gaps in research?) and how your study will help to fill these gaps. Theory and 3 Hypotheses (12 points): Describe the theory that guides your research. State three hypotheses that your research will test that derive from theory. References (2 points): List your references in APA format. Phase I of the proposal should be approximately 7 pages. PHASE II: Description of Proposed Research (100 points). PHASE II: Description of Proposed Research (100 points). You will have the opportunity to refine
