Starting in the post-World War II era American society saw the emergence of the “Youth Culture.” Modernity becomes the norm in societies being transformed by urbanization, industrialization and technology. Instead of being satisfied with the status quo, fashion, music, mannerisms, etc. of previous generations many young people are intrigued and embrace change and challenge social norms. With modernity each generation seems to believe they are the greatest generation ever to have lived i.e. “the coolest, best looking, smartest and most savvy generation to walk the face of the planet.” That the values of the previous generations were to be held in contempt in music, fashion styles, mannerisms, slang and interpersonal relationships. For the first time in American history the post-World War II posterity meant many teenagers were able to work around their school schedules and keep their incomes to spend on automobiles, music, fashion, dating and hanging out, cruising and going to drive-in fast food restaurants and movies.
