The extent we should want the government to assist people with their daily lives

Write a paper analyzing to what extent we should want the government to assist people with their daily lives. We all need the government to provide roads, effective sewers, laws, and military to
protect us from other Americans and from foreign despots, but should we really have the government paying for part of our housing, our medical bills, favoring jobs for some people over other people (is this truly the free enterprise system?), determining our reproductive rights, and generally determining economic policy? How much should we personally be responsible for on our own? Whatever happened to the American ethic of working hard and taking care of ourselves? Are Americans simply unable to provide for themselves? Discuss, but come up with a thesis and organized paragraphs with separate and clear main points.
