Demonstrate effective research, critical analysis, argumentation, synthesis of multiple sources and viewpoints, and revision. This paper will be argument-driven, which means that you'll support a claim/thesis with research. Your paper needs to be motivated by an existing status quo (general beliefs, practices, etc) and/or the arguments of others. The motivation may well be people's belief in fake news or a misconception for this paper.
The "fake news" or misconception you choose could be a political story or situation (from either the present or the past), a conspiracy theory, the rising popularity of "flat-earth" theory, anti-vaccination campaigns, conflicting reports or accounts, etc. The idea of misconceptions might be the most helpful way to approach this assignment for some of you. Humans have believed many misconceptions regarding the environment, food, technology, medicine, etc. Ultimately, you will arrive at an argument about why the falsehood/misconception was spread, what people's embracing of it means, and why that's important.
