The assignments and readings in the module are all about the people of the 1920s - how they acted, what their problems were, what it was like to live in this time. Use that knowledge in your paper and, as you read Gatsby, look for examples of those behaviors in Fitzgerald's characters and their actions. When you write your paper, use the Gatsby book like it is a research document about the people of the 1920s. This is not an English paper. We are not writing about symbolism. This is a Humanities paper and the Humanities focuses on the values of a people in a given time through what they create. You want to demonstrate how Fitzgerald shows us the real 1920s through his novel.
