How has electricity shaped the world we live in now, the impact in the world of architecture, developments in
design and our environmental expectations of today? The aim of the dissertation is to primarily explore and gain
an understanding of the impact the introduction of electricity has in architecture. It looks into the architectural
implications of electrical power, how far has this influence gone and more importantly what impact has this had
on people? The dissertation will also dive into the history of electricity, where and when building’s started
getting electrical connections and in what way was the first industrial revolution a necessary prerequisite to the
introduction of electricity on an industrial scale using the Crystal Palace as a precedent.
