Why is the impaired nurse neither praised nor looked upon with reverence like his/her peers?
COLLAPSE
This is an interesting question for us to consider this week. There are a number of definitions of an impaired
nurse but most agree that the judgment of the nurse is impaired by drugs, alcohol, or mental illness. Do you
have other definitions to include? How do you think the impaired nurse is looked upon by their peers? Have
you encountered impaired nurses in your practice? How does your State Practice Act address the impaired
nurse?
