Watch one of the movies listed below (some you will have to find a copy on your own) and examine how Japan is portrayed by a foreign "eye". How does the main character (often times a foreigner) negotiate himself / herself in Japan? Does he/she goes through cultural shock? Does the director portray Japan in romanticized, idealized or exotic way, or is the portrayal of Japan as faithful as it would have been portrayed by a Japanese director? How?
