Each student will select an organ (the liver) to research. The following aspects must be covered:
• normal function parameters/measurements,
• pertinent lab (blood, urine, etc.) values
• diagnostic (chest x-ray, ECHO, ultrasound, etc.) findings that may indicate organ dysfunction
• pathophysiology of the organ
• brief summary of the current state of that particular organ (% of patients on waitlist, 1, 3, 5, 10-year mortality/survival, “quality of life” post-transplant, etc.)
• You can include things such as surgical considerations (required vasculature for recipient anastomosi laterality, normothermic preservation, etc.),
• “extra” pre-OR evaluation methods such as CT-guided percutaneous liver biopsy, etc.
Perform a deep-dive on your organ (the liver); cover everything pertaining to the donor side and recipient considerations.
The student will write a 2-3 page (single-spaced) paper covering the mentioned aspects of their assigned organ, the liver
