The malignancy and mutation

Part 1 Instructions
Select a mutation associated with hematologic malignancies other than t(14;18) or t(9;22). Research the mutation and its associated malignancy, and summarize your findings. Your summary should include the following information:
• • Name of the malignancy and mutation
• • Description of the mechanism behind the mutation
• • Frequency of mutation/malignancy
• • Identification and description of at least two molecular techniques used to detect the mutation
• • Discussion of how the mutation effects the patient’s prognosis (Does the mutation indicate more severe disease? Can the mutation be used to develop targeted treatment options? Etc.)

Be sure to put all information in your own words AND include proper citations/references for each source utilized.

Part 2 Instructions
Summarize how each of the following HLA testing procedures is performed, when it might be useful, and advantages and disadvantages for each technique. Be thorough in your response! It is expected that you perform some outside research and provide more information than what is included in the lecture presentation.
• • Sequence Specific Oligonucleotide Probe (SSOP) hybridization
• • Sequence Specific PCR (SSP)
• • Sequence Based Testing (SBT)

Be sure to include citations/references for each source used and present the information in your own words!
