The Olmec civilization

1. One of the civilizations we have discussed that developed in the western hemisphere was the Olmec civilization. What contributions did this civilization make on this hemisphere politically, socially, religiously, economically, technologically, etc. In what ways did the Olmec civilization impact those that came later, such as the Maya?
2. The rise of Rome was as dramatic as it was vast. The Empire was quick to establish its dominance over the Mediterranean world. However, many of the reasons of its decline were present from the beginning. What were those reasons? In other words, why did the Roman Empire decline and later split in two?
