Trends report – a research report on a trend within a particular sector of the PR industry.
(Word count: 2,500 words + 500-word reflection)
Identify and research one current trend or development within one particular PR specialism or sector of their choice (eg political PR, consumer PR, corporate PR, not-
for-profit PR). They should research academic texts (books and journals) as well as practitioner sources (industry body websites, authoritative bloggers, PR trade
press etc) to find evidence of the trend, and to discuss what impact this might have on PR within that sector over the next 2- 5 years.
The main body of the report should be 2,500 words, followed by a 500-word appendix in which students reflect on what they have learned about doing secondary research
during this assessment. What worked well, what difficulties did they encounter, how easy was it to find authoritative sources etc. What would they do differently to
research their dissertation?
