The Sophoclean Antigone

  We studied a number of plays that were built on the Sophoclean Antigone. Pick two contrasting instances of how Antigone – as a tragic hero, as a citizen, and as a woman – is configured and argue for the merits or failures of the particular configuration. Make sure you account for all three attributes mentioned above – theatricality, politics, gender – and always with attention to the specific historical context of each play.
