CHAPTER ANALYSIS ENG4U
A. For this assignment, you are asked to write a 500-word chapter analysis (breaking down)
of any chapter of Albert Camus’ The Outsider (except Chapter three). In terms of presentation, this analysis must present a competent use of sentence structure,
paragraphing, phrasing, punctuation, and spelling. For other requirements for form,
please follow the instructions in Part B.
B. Your analysis must also present the following parts:
i) a plot summary ii) a discussion of the writing style and any rhetorical devices (i.e.
irony, alliteration, and anything relevant you notice about the style such as shorter sentences, complex language, etc). Identify these devices/features and discuss how this affects the writing and story. iii) a discussion of the themes of this chapter which first identifies the theme then, explains how this theme is developed and, finally, how effective you find this development to the overall story.
EVALUATION

Content for each one of the three sections (plot summary, style, rhetorical devices, theme commentary) will be graded on a score out of ten. So, the content score will be calculated
on the basis: 10 x 3 = __/30
Spelling/Grammar/Sentence Structure for all three sections will be graded out of a score of 10
