The strengths-based (or solutions-based) approach to human services considers in" rel="nofollow">interviewees to be resilient in" rel="nofollow">individuals who have coped in" rel="nofollow">in the past. It focuses on the positive qualities an in" rel="nofollow">interviewee brin" rel="nofollow">ings to the situation, rather than the deficits. Given this assumption, the in" rel="nofollow">interviewer uses a strengths-based approach, which aims to elicit the in" rel="nofollow">interviewee’s own strategies for copin" rel="nofollow">ing with a current situation. This approach has the added advantage of lessenin" rel="nofollow">ing an in" rel="nofollow">interviewee’s defensiveness. It is important to establish a foundation of strength. It is also important for an in" rel="nofollow">interviewer to gather needed in" rel="nofollow">information, to focus the in" rel="nofollow">interviewee on the pertin" rel="nofollow">inent issue needin" rel="nofollow">ing to be addressed, and to clarify issues and feelin" rel="nofollow">ings. Interview questions must lay a foundation of strength while accomplishin" rel="nofollow">ing these goals.
