The symbolism of the Veil in ″Minister′s Black Veil″
Your second essay is due by midnight on Sunday 10/29. It should be 3-4 pages in length + a works cited page and have a minimum of 3 sources (only one source is
required to be an outside source). The essay must be in MLA format, be a minimum of 5 paragraphs long and be written in Times New Roman #12 font.
You cannot use the same story as in your first essay!
Here are some potential topics (but you can also choose your own):
Any of the potential topics from the first essay that you did not choose
The symbolism of the Veil in "Minister's Black Veil"
Role of Science vs. Faith in "The Birthmark" (the story viewed as a cautionary tale)
Compare and Contrast "The Black Cat" and "Tell Tale Heart"
Discuss the role of the imagination in "The Raven"
Discuss the use of Dark Romanticism in one or two of the stories.
A character analysis of Montresor
A character analysis of Bartleby
A discussion of how Bartleby and his "ailment" may be a representation of Melville and his life (particularly his creative life)
* Remember that each source should have a minimum of one quote (in-text citation). That means at least 3 quotes from different sources and don't forget your works
cited page!!!
Also, remember that you are not to use personal pronouns (I, you, we, our, your, etc...). As for quotes, no quotes over 4 lines long as they have a different format
in MLA and these essays are not really long enough to justify such a long quote.
Additionally, please keep your similarity low (only based on quotes) and no higher than 25% and only based on quotes!
