This is the first part (paper) of a three-part project.
In this part which is a Strategic Foundation Paper, (due Nov 2020). It is a 1,200-1,600 word paper, assesses a
student’s ability to critically analyze the strategic environment. Students should develop a clear, focused,
usable problem statement by identifying the salient characteristics of the strategic environment including the
most important conditions, drivers/causal factors, dynamics, actors, structures, rules, and norms contributing to
current or future strategic challenges. Students should identify relevant national interests (vital, important, and
peripheral), threats and opportunities to/for those interests, as well as any initial assumptions that underpin
their analysis. This paper should also include a bibliography and should use Chicago Style of Citation .
