The vision of secularism in Canada

QUESTION 1
What vision of secularism do you think should be adopted in Canada, or in your home country if you’re not from
Canada? (Note: I’m asking what you think should be, not necessarily what is). Use one or more of the theories
discussed in the assigned readings and/or learning modules so far as a starting point (including some specific
reference), but you should be articulating your own vision of a secular (or non-secular) society as best you can.
Be sure to give a brief explanation why you hold the position you do.
In your discussion, give at least three different practical examples of how religion would be
expressed/managed/enabled/suppressed in your perfect society: in government policy, education, law, etc.
These examples can by hypothetical, but should be realistic.
QUESTION 2
Identify at least one thing discussed in the course so far (lectures, discussions, and/or readings) that has
caused you to question what you previously believed or assumed about religion–or at the very least, has given
you pause and caused you to reconsider. This can be anything, but you must be specific in referencing the
course material. You must explain with some detail the context in which the point came up, and what the point
was, and by whom it was raised (or with whom it is associated), before explaining why it has caused you to
change your mind or at least question your belief/assumption. In the course of your explanation, you should, of
course, explain your previously held belief.
