Time philosophy
Answer one of the following:
1. What is McTaggart's paradox? What are the various ways it has been answered, and what theories of time do these answers support? Which of these answers are the most satisfactory in your view,
and why? Would this lead you to accept that theory (theories) of time or are there other considerations that you find relevant?
2. Theories of time make various claims about whether the past and/or the future exist. Which of these theories count as A-theories and which count as B-theories, and why? What are the important
arguments for and against these theories? What is your overall assessment of these argument? Which of these theories do you therefore think is the most promising?
3. How does a Twentieth Century version of the causal theory of time draw on science? What possible challenges does science present to this project? Can these be overcome in your view? How does the
causal theory fare in these matters, and more generally, compared to other approaches to time?
