Tips on Designing a Culture of Health Community
1. Use the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Action Framework to begin planning and designing your culture of health community.
There are 4 Action Areas in the RWJF Framework and they follow:
Action Area 1 – Making Health a Shared Value
Action Area 2 – Fostering Cross-Sector Collaboration to Improve Well-Being
Action Area 3 – Creating Healthier, More Equitable Communities
Action Area 4 - Strengthening Integration of Health Services and Systems
2. Following are examples of some programs that address improving the health of citizens in the community:
a. Violence prevention which is a contagious disease
b. Mental Health Care Services
c. Chronic disease management
d. Educational programs
e. Making healthy choices by selecting specific behaviors that lead to improving health
f. Mother – Baby Wellness programs
3. Four key questions to consider when designing a culture of health community:
a. What causes diseases and negative health outcomes?
b. When in the human life cycle should disease prevention and promoting a culture of health begin?
c. What type of programs, services and infrastructure needs to be in communities to promote a culture of health?
d. What does the overall community infrastructure currently offer to promote a culture of health and what additional programs, services, and resources are needed to improve the culture of health in the community?
