Submit 2-3 pages’ critical review analysis that incorporates all of the academic readings assigned for that week. Your review must include a discussion of the following three components.
Each component should be titled and has its own discussion, but the entire essay should read as one coherent paper.
DO NOT create different document for each chapter. Find a way to integrate both in your writing in a flowing way.
1) Part 1: Titled “Summary” (no more than 1 page).
In this section you will summarize the week’s readings. Points to consider here:
- Focus on the recurring theme identified in the week’s readings.
- Describe the significant insights from the readings
- Address the question: what are the underline arguments that the author is presenting/advocating for?
2) Part 2: Titled “Analysis of the Problem and Recommendations” (no more than 1 page). In this section you will discuss the problem identified in the readings and recommendations for solving the problem that you identified. Points to consider here:
- Discuss the problem that arises from the reading (there may be several, focus on one or two).
- Present a discussion of the recommendations that you would suggest to the authors to address the flaws that you have identified with the practice.
- Discuss why your recommendations should be considered. How your proposed modifications could enhance the practicality and usefulness of the HR practice/policy.
3) Part 3: Titled “Practical Application” (no more than 1 page).
In this section you will connect your learning from the reading to your own experiences and make suggestions for possible practical application of the theoretical concepts in the reading to administrative practice in the public sector. In other words, this is where you make the connection between what you read to the world of practice. Points to consider here:
- What new concepts or ideas stand out for you as particularly interesting and provocative?
- Why are they so significant to you and to the organization you work for (or for organizations in general)?
- Connect your learning from the reading to your own past experiences - how can you utilize the new ideas or apply some of the skills in your work to become a more effective public employee and advance your professional growth?
- This is the only section in which you can use first person (i.e., “I believe that…”)
