For your first short story, I want you to turn the lyrics of a song into a short story. There is a number of narrative songs (“Bohemian Rhapsody,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Harper Valley PTA”) that lend themselves to an activity like this. However, feel free to use a song that might present little more of a challenge but speaks to you. Stay true to the theme of the song, but have fun with details, characters, and dialogue.
You will edit and expand on this piece for your final portfolio, so I do not expect this to be a polished piece. You will workshop with your classmates to make revisions to the story. This is what you will include in your portfolio.
