My TV Log #3: Television sitcoms/comedies… what is television today?
To prepare for this journal, be sure to read "How should television be defined nowadays?", and watch a
television comedy/sitcom episode from the 2000s (the more current the better). I've provided several to choose
from ("2000s Sitcoms" module), but you are also free to use an episode from another series, especially if you
have access to an original comedy series from a streaming service like Amazon (Transparent, Fleabag, The
Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) or Netflix (BoJack Horseman, Master of None, Glow, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt).
These streaming services/titles are suggestions, you can go with any recent television series comedy;
however, for this journal response, be sure to watch the episode with fresh eyes (don't rely on memory of an
episode you binge-watched awhile ago or even last week).
After you watch the episode, reflect on what surprised, excited, shocked, disgusted, or otherwise turned you on
or turned you off? Summarize these reflections in your journal and answer the following: Would you watch
another episode? Specifically why, or why not? Considering Robert Lloyd's column and your reaction to this
episode, what is television to you?
