- What do Twitter posts reveal about the counter speech?
- What are the features of hate speech against Muslims on Twitter?
- To what extent can hate speech against Muslims be discussed?
- What do Twitter posts chosen for this study reveal about hate speech against Muslims?
- What do Twitter posts in this time span reveal about the counter speech? Not sure what you mean by counter speech. Defenses? Rebuttals?
- What are the features of hate speech against Muslims on Twitter? You need to define what you mean by features. Characteristics? Themes?
- To what extent can hate speech against Muslims be discussed? I don’t get what you mean… Do you mean are there discussions on Twitter?
- What are the most hashtags that are related to hate speech against Muslims? As a qualitative work, you’re not really concerned about “most,” but you could certainly note which tags are used within the tweets you select for your analysis.
Identify a time around which it would be logical to expect to see a lot of anti-Muslim tweeting going on. You’ve done that with one of Trump’s speeches.
Specify that time interval. Date to date.
Be more specific about how you will find the tweets
Specific hashtags – which you do identify, but you also have to justify them. Why those? Why only those? Don’t say “such as,” limit them, or say that you’re going to search on all the hashtags that are included in any tweets you see… Whatever you do, you have to explain why.
What language or languages are you going to collect? Why?
What criteria will you use to select your sample of 100? That is an arbitrary number, though, and you need to explain that. Your criteria will define what you find, and once you find it, you will know your number. It may be that the number of tweets you find is unmanageable after one day, or two. In which case you need to alter your timeframe. But that’s something you need to suss out before you write a proposal.
For example, I just did a Twitter Advanced Search on #stopislam for March 1-15. It returned enough tweets for 58 pages, with about 5 (conservatively speaking) for each page. So there’s close to 300 tweets right there, and that wasn’t a particularly politicized time. I’m going to send you that pdf (if the email will accept it) to show you what I mean.
What is your text? Name all the things you’re going to consider: message, emoticons? Images? Hashtags other than the one you searched on? The user’s name? The user’s avatar?
How do you propose to archive your data? I would suggest using the pdf method I referred to above. But that all has to be in the proposal.
