Type of ethical problem

In your post, discuss the following:

• What are the issues at hand? What type of ethical problem is this?
• What do you do and what ethical principles and approaches from your readings (hint: ch 4 - nonmaleficence, beneficence, fidelity, autonomy, veracity, justice, deontology, teleology) are applicable? how/why?

Put your self in the shoes of ONE of the following people: the parents, the boy, the physician, the lawyer, or the judge. Once you have decided on a role, respond to the following questions from that person's perspective (or what you think their perspective would be).

• Do you think the hospital was ethically right in seeking a court order to have the boy receive a blood transfusion?
• Do you think the boy had the capacity to give informed consent (or in this case refusal)?
• Should religious beliefs be taken into consideration in cases involving children?
