Veterinary Medicines
A client has arrived at the practice with a 4 month old Border Collie puppy and has requested worming treatment for their animal. The practice stocks Panacur Oral Paste and Milbemax Tablets for
dogs. The veterinary nurse on duty is a registered suitably qualified person (SOP).
• Critically evaluate the choice of deworming product in this animal, relating this to the history and information required prior to dispensing medication, referring to relevant legislation where
appropriate. • Explain how the selected product should be packaged and labelled for dispensing, including the instructions given to the client. • Determine the risks and adverse reactions seen with
this medication relating to its actions and excretions and discuss how such reactions should be reported.
• 4. Apply legal principles affecting prescription and supply of veterinary medicines. (including SOP) • 5. Critically review the requirements for the supply of medicines to clients to include,
prescriptions, packaging and labelling, stock control, administration and interpreting abbreviations. • 6. Identify the mechanisms by which drugs act on the body and their excretion including
factors affecting these processes.
