  1. How the author shapes his/her argument or crafts their presentation to convince you to feel the same way they do about the topic.

For example, do they use of image or graphics? Music? Interaction with audience? Asking questions? Use of personal experience? Their education or work background? Research or data? Outside sources? Other expert opinion? You must have at least two to three ways the speaker makes their case. (two – three paragraphs total).

  1. Then, focus your attention on the rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, pathos, and kairos. Which ones do they use? Where and how? Please focus on at least two of these. (two paragraphs total).

Using the library’s databases - http://www.swccd.edu/index.aspx?page=2921 - most likely EbscoHost or ProQuest, do a little research on the topic in the video to see if
the host may not be considering something in their argument - this is called reading against the grain - or maybe leaving something out in the discussion. If they are not, and it appears that they cover both sides to the issue, see what others are saying about the topic and include it in your essay. For this essay, you only need ONE outside source. (One to two paragraphs total).

Your essay should be a minimum of seven paragraphs counting the into and conclusion.

Speaking of conclusions, a tip: Your conclusion should wrap up your analysis, NOT the talk or issue.
