In warm weather the mason should wait this number of days before laying concrete block on the footing? Why and what are the benefits?

CURING TIME
In warm weather, concrete block should not be laid on the footing until 3 days have passed. The forms should not be removed until 4 days have passed. In cold weather, the footing should not be loaded or forms removed for at least 8 days. Freezing can be prevented by covering the footing with straw. The testing strength rating for concrete is usually based on 28 days of curing time. However, concrete actually takes longer to reach full strength. The ideal temperature for curing concrete is about 72°F. Common sense should always be used when starting concrete block work on a green (not cured) footing. If masonry materials are being stocked in the foundation area before the footing has cured completely, care should be taken not to damage the edges of the footing.
