What Is a Healthy Community?

Description

The health problems and issues that face our country, our states and our cities and towns have changed much in the past 100 years. Infectious diseases which were a major cause of death in the early 20th Century, no longer cause the same level of mortality that they once did, but are they no longer problems? Do infectious diseases still present a problem?
In large part, as a result of successful efforts to reduce infectious disease mortality, chronic diseases have become more prevalent as leading causes of death. Heart disease, cancer and stroke now are the top causes of death in this country.
Other events such as violence, drug abuse, injuries and even terrorism impact the health of communities as well.
Regardless of the outcome other factors - personal behaviors, social norms and community conditions play a leading role as determinants of health in individual communities?
