Welcome to Working With Human Service Organisations! For the most part, social work practice is undertaken within the context of organisations. The organisations we work in and with can have a significant influence in the work that we do and in the lives of those who come to us for service. It is important to have a critical understanding of key dimensions of work with human service organisations. This course prepares you for that by equipping you with important theoretical and philosophical foundations. By the end of the course, we hope that you will be capable of critically engaging with the organisational context of social work/human service practice. At this time in your study program, it is assumed that most if not all of you would have had some experience working in human service organisations, including your first field placement. Bring this along with you as we delve into this course. The first thing you'd like to do is explore our course site and look up relevant information in the Week 1 menu. The first week of the study period is orientation week. We will have no classes in the first week. But there are resources that you need to look up, including the orientation video.
