World Sporting Games
The World Sporting Games – the world’s largest sporting event – is to take place in London in six months. It will feature sports ranging from athletics to football to sailing. The event will be run by The World Sporting Games Committee which is a commercial operation but 50 per cent of the financing for the games is being paid by British taxpayers. 1) A new chief executive for the games is appointed. She is a former civil servant with no previous involvement with public relations. Write a report for her explaining the role and activities of the PR department. Ensure you inform her of what the PR department does not - and cannot - do as well as telling her about activities the department can and must undertake. Include in this report: a) A description of what PR objectives the Committee might have when beginning this campaign. Evaluate how these objectives would benefit the World Sporting Games as a business. b) An outline of the campaign you intend to conduct to promote the games, including an evaluation of the range of PR tools available to be used. Mention which tools will potentially have a major impact and those which are more minor but nonetheless an essential part of the PR process. c) A proposed press release in standard format on behalf of the World Sporting Games Committee announcing the games. You may make up any relevant information. Note: A minimum of 800 words is required for the completion of this assignment. It is likely that many more words will be necessary to display the relevant knowledge but any assignment submitted with less than 800 words will not be considered.
