Do not use contractions, do not use first person, number your pages, and PROOFREADll! Be sure to define your terms! I WILL NOT ACCEPT LATE PAPERS FOR FULL CREDIT! don'i' Say wofld 00‘“ one. {inf a goat! Hit“ You must have a title and an underlined thesis statement! (a thesis is a position7argument; I should be able to read your paper title and know what position and/or argument you will make in the paper. Then, at the end of the 1“ paragraph, I will find your underlined thesis, which makes clear your answer to the historical question below.) You are only to use your two textbooks, any relevant films, and class lecture. If you use quotes, be certain to quote EXACTLY, USE QUOTATION MARKS and give the book and page number of your citation [use in text citation: (author, p#)]. You may not paraphrase without giving a citation. Any quote or paraphrasing should be used ONLY as a means to reinforce a point you are trying to make that supports your thesis. I want your own words as much as possible. (Remember to refer to the relevant pages of the booklet “An Introduction to the Culture of Scholarship.”) i-**************************************************************** Refer to your notes, film, and text (Ch 26) regarding WWI (make sure to read p. 825-25), and read the handout of Chapter 11 by Weisner. The handout/chapter contains primary documents, with an explanatory introduction of the realities of total war, as well as Source 4, which is a rather dispassionate account/description of a battle of WWI. One of the selection’s authors quotes the Roman poet Horace who said: “It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country.” This was certainly a sentiment many nations and men believed as they marched off to War in 1914. But as the war dragged on, the menhs minds changed (on both sides of the war); why? To answer this question, you need to understand how Sources 1-3 differ from Sources 5-7 with regard to the Horace quote. What do you believe accounts for the differences between these 2 sets of sources? (I will expect you to give an overview/ introduction of the war, explaining the various factors that led to war and that fed the war machines. Then explain the feelings of both the governments [ie, officially, the governments gave what reasons for war] and their soldiers [how soldiers felt about going off to war] at the onset of the war. Then address what happened during the course of the war that changed the minds of the soldiers [as noted above, good source for this is Source 4]. In doing this, you will be explaining why they changed their minds [your answer will look at how Sources 5-7 differed from Sources 1-3 ~ what were the realities of war that changed the soldiers' early perceptions of going to war.])
