ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS
Look at five architects/projects from the Second Generation to analyze them within the framework of Frampton's and Eggener's debate over Critical Regionalism. (you may have to do some additional research to answer):
--cultural/political context (including: colonization, indigenous, bldgs, architectural history, etc.) --technology context (why choice of materials, experiments, sourcing, meaning?) --resource context (money, labor, materials, efficiency, etc.--in terms of project and context) --site/climate context (be specific) --other considerations specific to project --Frampton or Eggener?? Which analysis makes sense here? How and why?
Below are the five projects: address each project on each point above, paying particular attention to note in parentheses.
Brit Andresen: Rosebury House (Connection to site and climate, material experimentation--why would Australia be a locale on this list?) Lina BoBardi: SESQ Pompeia (Why might we call this critically regional?) DV Doshi: Sangath, studio (Abstraction of cultural spatial practices) Van Molyvann: National Theater (Post-colonial signaling, reference to indigenous forms) Oscar Niemeyer: Canoas House (Brazilian take on modernism--how so?)
