Task 1 (40%): 500 words Task One: Choose one text from the reading list. It could be a journal article or a chapter from one of the books. Write a 500-word analysis of how useful one or two aspects discussed (eg intercultural communication concepts or theories) in your text are for achieving better intercultural communication in a context you are familiar with. The review should include a summary of the key idea(s) presented in the text and an evaluation of how it/ they might be usefully applied to real world situations or contexts (you will need to specify one from your own life, business experience or future career.) 40% weighting. 1) Write the name of the text chosen. 2) Briefly summarise the key ideas of the text (in your own words): 3) Choose one or two aspects in the text connected to intercultural communication concepts or theories. 4) Choose an aspect of your life in which you want to improve your intercultural communication (e.g. living in UK, business experience, future career etc.) 5) Evaluate how useful these aspects are for achieving better intercultural communication in this aspect of your life. Choose a local business you are familiar with or that you use (this could be on campus, a restaurant, tourist site, hairdresser, shop, coffee shop, bookshop, etc.) Consider how the business / company presents itself to the public. This can be done by looking at its layout and decor, any printed materials it produces, the language and terminology used to describe its products or services, promotional materials including adverts, leaflets, publicity materials, logo and branding, etc. You will need to provide visual evidence of these (eg a photograph or copies of the materials). Write a 1000-word report which evaluates the business in terms of evidence of its intercultural awareness. Consider if and how the company considers its consumers / users from an intercultural perspective and where there may be areas to improve on. You will need to consider aspects of intercultural communication a company of this nature would need to pay particular attention to in the context in which it is operating (eg Brighton).
