The Townsend Act of 1767 imposed a series of taxes on goods imported into the colonies, including tea, paper, paint and glass. This sparked intense outrage from the colonists who felt that they were being taxed without having any say in Parliament. This outrage spurred on the beginning of American revolutionary sentiment among colonists.
The Boston Massacre was an event that occurred in Boston on March 5th, 1770 which resulted in five colonists being killed by British soldiers following a scuffle between them and a crowd. After news spread about the incident it further catalyzed colonial anger at Britain’s presence in North America and was used to further rally people behind independence from England.
