People disagree about morality
Assignment: Write an 6-8-page philosophical argument that provides your answer to a particular philosophical problem related to moral theory that makes
purposeful use of philosophical research and reveals your own critical thinking. Give your paper an academic title. Your paper’s introduction should engage
your readers’ interest in your philosophical problem. Your thesis statement or claim, which generally comes at the end of your introduction, should give your
answer to your philosophical question in a single sentence. The body of your paper should develop and support your thesis using both your research findings
and your own critical thinking. Depending on the kind of philosophical problem you pose, you will also need to summarize the critical conversation that has
surrounded your research question, thus helping the reader to see how your thesis is positioned against the view of other critics.
Audience: Address your paper to students in this class who have some background in ethical theory but may need to be introduced to the specific problem
you are addressing. You must therefore create a context for your argument as you would do in any professional paper or presentation. It may be helpful to
imagine a formal presentation at an undergraduate conference will help you to visualize a real-world audience.
Format: This is a professional academic document, and it should be designed as such. Please use MLA guidelines for formatting (double-spacing, 12 pt.
Times New Roman font, l” -margins, etc.). For in-text citations should be (author, date) with bibliographic information provided at the end in a references list.
For a direct quote, (author, date; pg#). Bibliographic information can be provided according to any style. A professional document should, of course, be
carefully proofread before being submitted.
The question I went with is, given that people disagree about morality, what does that tell us about the nature of morality?
