Sample Answer
Regular physical exercise and activity can help prevent and manage a variety of health problems in middle-aged adults, two of which are cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for one in four deaths each year. CVD is a broad term that refers to a group of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and heart failure.
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that affects the way the body metabolizes sugar (glucose). With type 2 diabetes, the body either resists the effects of insulin—a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells—or doesn’t produce enough insulin to maintain normal glucose levels.
