Communism

Prompt: “Under the capitalist system, in order that England may live in comparative comfort, a hundred million
Indians must live on the verge of starvation – an evil state of affairs, but you acquiesce in it every time you step
into a taxi or eat a plate of strawberries and cream” (Orwell, p. 159). Why has the communist revolution not
taken place, in the midst of such horrible inequality? What does the Communist Manifesto and/or On The
Jewish Question tell us about the hegemonic ideologies that make us comfortable with this situation even
today? Or is it due to human nature (if so, how do you know?)?
Notes:1) the clarity and precision of your writing (including grammar, syntax, punctuation, spelling, etc.) and the
organization of your paper (including paragraph-level and
overall organization),
2) the carefulness of your reading and use of the readings,
3) the coherence and thoughtfulness of your arguments, analysis and interpretations. Note: Arguments with
careful references to the texts will get a higher grade than arguments that accurately parrot what we discussed
