Assessment Instructions
This assessment includes two parts. Compile both parts into one document for submission. Follow the instructions provided for each part.

Part 1: Ethical Issues in Psychology
Ethics are a central concept to any career in psychology, but ethical issues are sometimes unclear, and solutions to ethical dilemmas are often difficult to determine. As a professional in psychology, it is important to know how to identify an ethical issue, think through possible solutions, and find the resources necessary to guide your choices.

For this part of the assessment, choose a case study applicable to your future vision in the field from the Ethics Case Studies by Specialization document linked in the Assessment Resources. Then, address the following questions:

What do you see as the ethical issue or issues involved in the case study you reviewed? Cite the relevant elements within the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (linked in the Unit Resources and Assessment Resources) to support your analysis.
What steps would you take to attempt to resolve the issue?
How does this issue, as well as the other standards in the APA code of ethics, relate to your future career in psychology?
How do these ethical principles relate to your role as a graduate learner in psychology?
Part 2: Ethics in Research and Information Gathering
As mentioned in the introduction, another set of important ethical considerations and principles related to your role as a professional and a learner in psychology is ethics in research. To help you distinguish between scholarly research and information gathering and practice conducting ethical research, you may wish to review the following documents, linked in the Assessment Resources:

Review the Research Definition provided by the Capella Research Integrity Office.
Review Ethical Foundations in Capella’s Research Center. You do not need to review the Responsible Conduct of Research PDF.
Talking to individuals in your desired career or related to your future vision is a great way to further clarify your goals and transform your aspirations into reality. In Unit 5, you will locate a professional in psychology and ask questions relevant to your continuing career exploration. For this part of the assessment, clarify the distinction between conducting research and gathering information through an interview and reflect on the ethical principles involved by addressing the following questions:

What is the difference between conducting research in the field of psychology and conducting an informational interview?
What ethical principles are most applicable to your upcoming professional interview? What will you do to ensure you adhere to ethical principles while conducting your interview?
