It is important for every citizen to develop their skills at finding the empirical data they need in order to assess
public officials and policies. This assignment will build these skills by having you conduct some basic research
about the people that represent you. Here is the task
Chapter 3
Select an elected public official that represents you and investigate which interest groups support them.
Compile a list of that official’s top donors and describe the ways in which he or she might be influenced by
these groups. Be sure to cite all of your sources properly in your submission.
First, it will help to know who your representatives are. To save time, you should use this link and type in your
address to find out who your representatives are. Take a screenshot or picture and paste it in the document
you will submit. I would select a state level official for this assignment, because it will be easier to find data for
them. The next thing to do is find out who is supporting your representative. Here are some links you can use
to find out about the flow of money from interest groups to the people that represent you. Look through the
links to get a picture of the connections and make a list to submit for this assignment. Add your description of
the influences these groups will seek to make on the public official.
