Literature Analysis

Directions: Respond to the concepts, ideas, learning outcomes and information from Unit 3.

you strive to attain a higher grade, your reflection should be above this word count level.

be from the D2L material, text, lecture, and/or videos, PowerPoints, and discussions which specifically
reference the unit material.
You must use MLA format for your reflective response, which means you must correctly use in-text citation
format and include a separate Works Cited page.
Be sure your reflection is typed and is double-spaced.
Your reflection should draw on the following:
course text and supplementary readings
relevant points and ideas from class discussions,
lectures, and PowerPoints/videos (if applicable).
Focus of the Reflective Assignment:
The purpose of the reflective paper is to encourage the organization and presentation by each participant of
thoughts and conclusions concerning the concepts and ideas in the unit presented.
Write a reflective response describing what you have learned about the issues, ideas, and thoughts you
learned in unit 5. To help you, consider including the answers to some of these questions in your reflection:
What key concepts and questions are explored in The New Jim Crow?
How did slavery function as a mechanism of racialized social control?
How did racial hierarchy adapt and persist after Emancipation?
You do not have to use the questions above in your reflection; they are provided only as a guide. Feel free to
discuss the issues and concepts from the unit which mean the most to you and have helped you as a critical
thinker and academic writer.
Be sure to be specific, concise, and use in-text citations to verify your assertions and ideas.
